Grounding insight, guarding the iron core - integrated protection within your DGA monitor
General
Project Description
For the same export project to Kazakhstan (Drawing No. 12878), the transformer core grounding current monitor's module is integrated into the transformer dissolved gas analyzer as an IED backend for core/clamp fault detection. Two sets of core monitoring modules are supplied alongside two oil chromatography units.
The core monitoring module adopts a high-precision zero-flux current sensor (model ALT50A7-10A/A1) installed on the core and clamp grounding down conductors. It measures grounding currents from 0 to 10A AC with a 4-20mA DC output, enabling real-time detection of multi-point grounding faults caused by insulation deterioration. The module is powered by a switching power supply (JMD20-D15, ±15V DC) and utilizes RVVP 4×0.75mm² control cables for signal transmission. Terminals (SAKEW35 for fixing, SAKDU 2.5N for low-voltage connections) ensure reliable internal wiring.
The system complies with GB/T 11022, DL/T 596-1996, DL/T 572-95, and enterprise standard QBO11-RX2009. It supports IEC 61850 communication protocol, seamlessly integrating with the transformer IED and substation monitoring system for remote data transmission and alarm output. By continuously tracking core grounding current trends, the module provides early warning of developing faults, enabling proactive maintenance and enhancing transformer operational safety.

Current sensor
|
|
The current sensor is the core sensing element of the core/clamp online monitoring system. It is installed on the grounding down conductor of the transformer core and clamp using a non-contact feed-through structure. It measures from milliamperes to amperes, capturing weak circulating currents caused by insulation deterioration or multiple grounding points. With anti-electromagnetic interference design, it delivers high-linearity, low-noise analog signals for reliable data analysis. |
Acquisition and Processing Module
|
This module is the data hub and control core of the system. It receives analog signals from the current sensor, performs filtering, amplification, and analog-to-digital conversion, then processes the data via an embedded processor. It identifies and filters out environmental interference, accurately detects multiple grounding faults, and triggers local alarms when current exceeds preset thresholds. Standard communication interfaces enable seamless connection to substation monitoring systems or smart management platforms for remote data access, parameter configuration, and fault diagnosis. |
